How to put on a zipper (and make it look super cute)
If you're going to sew a zipper, first of all: change the presser foot.
Yes, yes… it's not a whim, it's that this special presser foot allows you to get much closer to the teeth of the zipper and achieve that nice and clean finish we want.
Step by step to make it perfect:
Place the outer fabric with the outer fabric. We are going to attach the zipper leaving a margin of about 2 cm.
Mark with two notches the beginning and the end of the gap where the zipper will go.
Make a stitch 2 cm from the edge, just a little bit here and another there. The space between the notches will be left open (that will be the gap for the zipper).
Open the seam with your fingers and press it well. This is key so that when placing the zipper, it sits perfectly.
With the zipper open, place one side of the seam over one side of the zipper and the other side… to the other.
Hold everything in place with pins so it doesn't move.
Sew from the inside out and follow the line of the seam you made at the beginning.
Whether you do it with the zipper open or closed, at some point you'll encounter the slider. When that happens, lift the presser foot slightly, move the slider to the other side… and continue.
And now, turn the garment and… ta-da! Zipper placed and hidden, polished and beautiful.
